Every time my mouse pointer is idle, an annoying pop-up menu appears. Also,
if I mouse-over say a menu item for instance, it will select that item
without me actually clicking on it. I am tired, it is probably something
simple, I have looked at the Mouse option in Control Panel, but cannot figure
out where to disable these settings. I just want a normal, double-click, and
select what you click on mouse.

Thanks in advance everyone, this is a great community!

Are you using TweakUI?

The message poping up sounds like tool tips.

The mouse selecting an item is X-Mouse. Useful for making a background
window active just by passing the pointer over it but it takes a bit of
getting used to.

Check if you have a systray application that allows you to specify mouse
actions, or get/use TweakUI for XP and you can change these settings under
"General" and "Mouse" options.
