pop ups

HI,
Of recent i notice that when ever i open an explorer
window a couple of pop up windows come up.
I know there is some program/script running in the
background, that is causing this problem.
Can any one please tell how should i identify that
program, and how should i avoid any future installations
of such programs.
This is very annoying and frustrating.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have win XP pro on my computer.

I get that too with windows xp pro, i read somewhere
that it is a built in feature of XP, not sure if thats
true or not. Any way, i got one pop up once which was
advertising software to stop such pop ups. I think the
address was http://www.byebyeads.com/ take a look u may
find it interesting but i dont see why we should have to
pay to get rid of these pop up adds that are MEGA annoying
