pop-ups/adware

i've had a recent problem, which is extremely annoying
and time-consuming. some website i went to has loaded
spyware or adware on my computer, and after frequent
attempts to get rid of it, it keeps regenerating itself
onto my hard drive. the most annoying of the group of
things that pop up is a program called "globaldialer",
which will connect to some server and then hit me with 25
or 30 pop-up windows for porn sites. i try to disconnect
or exit, but it'll automatically keep starting up. how
can i get rid of all of these programs? is there a way
to search my computer for that kind of software and then
get rid of it all at once?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
