Pop up being blocked

A pop up I want to see is somehow being blocked.

Before SP2 I had Google pop up blocker. Despite trying to allow pop ups at
the site I want to see, it still blocked them.
I removed Google pop up blocker, and I still can't see the pop up.

Since installing SP2 I have only seen the warning about the XP pop up
blocker a couple of times which seems odd.

Right . Found it and allowed the site, but the pop up still doesn't appear!

You could try Opera browser... (www.opera.com)... it's pop-up blocker [tools >
preferences > windows > pop-ups] is much more reliable and unlike IE doesn't ask
me to let popups through most of the time.. very annoying..

I only use internet explorer for the very rare page that has problems with
opera, or for windows updates, bless microsoft for making their update page
completely incompatible with competitors browsers.

You haven't installed any other software that may have a pop-up blocker in
it? You still don't see the pop-up even if you turn the blocker off
completely?

I have the Google search bar installed. I did have the pop up blocked
switched on a long time ago but not now.

Try holding down the CTRL key when you click on a link that will produce a
popup you want to see. That key works as a manual override for some popup
blockers.
