Poor quality on Canon PIXMA iP1600

I am trying to help a friend who uses her Canon iP1600 to print
notecards with her photographs. She has done this for some time with
excellent results, but now gets slight vertical lines in the
printouts. She says that the alignment setup doesn't work correctly.

Does she have a bad cartridge?

Is there anything in the printer itself that might mean she should get
a new printer?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Use manual head alignment, not automatic. That's probably where the trouble
lies.

But running the nozzle check test will rule out a clogged head.

This printer is one of Canon's overpriced piece of junk. You can buy a
Canon IP4300 for the price of a set of carts; $59.95 when on sale with
rebate. I saw this price advertised twice in the past 2 months.

Measekite, you need a new line. You're getting to be very monotonous.
Every time somebody has trouble with a printer, you tell them their
printer is a piece of junk and they should go buy a Canon IP4300.
Apparently, you think it's the only printer that works. Well, if Canon
is so great, why is it that they even produce all those models you say
are junk? Any *reputable* company wouldn't make junk. (And I include the
maker of my own printer, HP, in that assessment.)

The IP4300 is the lowest model that is any good and at $59.95 it is
pretty cheap. The model below that is a total piece of crap. But some
people cannot tell the difference.

None of which answers my question. I'll try again, with different
wording. If Canon is such a good company, why do they produce ANY junk?

Don't be concerned. I don't expect a proper answer this time, either.
You don't have one.
