Canon Pixma 4000 photo print quality

I have a Canon Pixma iP 4000 printer. Works fine but I cannot get it
to print correctly using gloss photo paper. The colours are very
exagerated and contrasty. Reds are bright red, greens too green.
The colours are Ok when using plain paper but I really need to be able
to use photo quality paper..
The problem is with any application, Photoshop, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
I am using genuine Canon ink and Canon paper but the results are the
same if I use any make of photo paper.
I have tried choosing different paper qualities from the print menu
but no difference.

Any ideas would be gratefully received

It's a matter of getting the settings right, suggest you create a color
profile to match your paper.

You must be doing something incorrect but at this point I do not know
what. I have the same printer and use only Canon ink. I have done all
of the same things and have great results. Maybe you are using a
profile in your editor and also one in the print driver.

For the most part I use full sheet Costco glossy paper using only the
Canon Photo Paper Pro profile. I also use Epson Dbl Wt matte using the
Canon matte profile. I also use Ilford Gallerie CLASSIC Pearl (not
smooth Pearl) and have downloaded the profile from Ilford with great
results. I turn off the auto settings in the print driver. Press the
set button and choose None for Print Type and uncheck ICM.

Thanks very much everybody.
I will now have to get down and fiddle with preferences, profiles etc.
maybe strip out and replace printer drivers.

A job for a rainy day but the sun is shining out there just now, too
good to be stuck in front of a screen.

Regards
