Poor DirectX performance on WinXP with nvidia Geforce2 MX400

Hi

I am running an nvidia Geforce2 MX400 with most recent driver an
an AMD800 machine with 512Mb memory. I downloaded latest DirectX 9c
from MSoft.

In the past when I ran this machine with Win98 and DirectX8 the DX
video tests (bouncing white box and rotating "X" cube") all in the
past ran quickly and smoothly. Now, having upgraded to XP and current
driver and DX9 the DXDiag tests are all very slow playback and
"choppy". The performance of a Black Gold TV output to screen is also
"choppy". Video hardware acceleration is set to full on all settings I
can find.

What has happened? Any fix to make playback "smooth" again?

That card is an older slowerrr model.
It is NOT DX9 capable.
It is not very stable with the newer FX series drivers, one of which you are
apparently using.
You are overdriving the GPU on that slower unit by turning the video
acceleration to High.

MX400 lack of support for DX9 is a problem since BlackGold says it
requires DX9 !!!

Back on the upgrade escalator I guess !!!

Follow-on

I upgraded the machine to an AMD-3000 CPU and motherboard

The DirectX 9c tests run fine (no choppiness) with the MX400 board.

Recording performance through the Black Gold card from digital TV is
now fine.

I have read up reviews of AGP8x cards and they don't seem to offer
fantastic performance improvements over AGP4 and don't seem to be worth
the money

I'm going to buy a few modern games and see how this new baby performs.
