Pointer jumping

Every few minutes my pointer will jump down and to the left several inches
when I try to click on something. At other times the object on the screen
will down several inches. No disaster, but disconcerting and occasionally
creates a lot of work.

Not sure what to do.

XP, Asus p4p3, wireless/optical mouse and keyboard.

Do you have "Snap to" enabled for your mouse (control panel--mouse--pointer
options)? If not, it could have something to do with the fact it's
wireless. I had a number of bizarre things happen when I ran a wireless
mouse, so I switched back to the corded technology.
