Erratic Mouse

Win XP Pro, SP2, Office 2003.
I have a Logitech optical trackman marble device. Every so often the mouse
pointer will slowly scroll to the top of the screen or the pointer will
"jump" to the upper left corner of the screen. I have tried another mouse,
removed and reinstalled drivers - still the same problem. I do not have any
other devices connected via serial port or USB.
I have searched MSKB, Technet, and Google with no good results.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks.

Since the same issue occurs with two different mice:

1. Make sure the mousing surface isn't too glassy or shiny. While
optical mice don't usually require a mousepad, sometimes you are better
off using a mousepad in a solid dark color (no patterns).

2. If #1 isn't the answer, then try updating your video card drivers.
Get them from:

a. The device mftr.'s website; OR
b. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
c. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.
