Plug N Play

I installed a update on my ME system, When I boot it hangs
right on the main screen with the field. I went into safe
mode & found that under the system files Plug & Play when
I shut that off I started fine. Anybody know why or what I
should look for with out that working modems or nothing
works. I need help!!! Thanks
