plug and play doesn't find correct drivers

I have a digital camera, usb memory stick, printer, iPod, and ext. dvd drive
that are all plug and play and did not come with separate driver discs. I've
cleaned my computer of spy-ware and add-ware products and now it no longer
recognizes these devices. Every time I startup it launches the found new
hardware wizard and fails at installing each device. I've tried both
automatic and manual install. It doesn't seem to be searching the windows
network for drivers and instead it sounds like it's only looking in the cd
drive (D:\). The device manager recognizes that they are plugged in but says
there are no working drivers installed. Why won't my plug and play work
properly?

USB Hub Power Management - disable : Start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC , then
rightclick each USB Hub device, Properties, uncheck the box on the Power
Management tab.

Don't know if it matters but everything but the memory stick has it's own
power source, would it be helpfull to reinstall XP? I have very little data
which I could back up in an hour or two, and still have all the other
software disks.

Couldn't hurt. If the setting is made, and you restart with the same
problem, I would do an Upgrade setup.

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the
setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into a setup loop, and you
will lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you do a Upgrade setup from CD
(that lacks sp2 on it.)
