"Please wait while windows prepares to start" screen after sys. rs

I used system restore the other day, and it went okay, until the computer
rebooted and stopped at the screen saying, "Please wait while Windows
prepares to start. . ."

It's been on that screen for more than twenty-four hours, and I don't
remember it ever taking this long.

This is actually the second time, since I rebooted, but I had to use system
restore again after that because it wouldn't do anything.

Does anyone know what's wrong?
