Right after the POST and just before I see the Logon screen, I get a
light blue screen and the words "Please Wait......" appear at the top
left of the screen. The '.' (periods) after the word 'wait' continue
one by one until they stop and the Logon continues. Does anyone know
why this might happen and what I can do about it? Thank you.

Have you come across a solution yet?
I have the same problem.

If I add /SOS to the boot line in boot.ini I see the following:

Checking file system on C:
The volume is clean.
Windows has finished checking the disk.
Please wait.......................................................
