Hi,

Could someone please tell me what apart from security is
the difference and advantage of using ftp to copy files
rather than a straight forward copy.

Any help and links would be appreciated.

Yor, my experience has been that ftp is extremely slow. Compared to
something like xcopy, which is a native 32 bit command line utility
which utilizes available memory for caching the copy process.
