Hello All,
I could really use some help with this one.... I have a system that
won't load the Windows desktop. It gets to the background screen
(clouds) and then just sits there - no icons, no Start Menu, no system
tray ever appears. I found that I can start the Task Manager by hitting
ctrl-alt-del and even run some programs from it, including msconfig,
regedit and even AOL but Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer will not
run. It acts this same way in safe mode. The O/S is WinXP Home with all
MS updates except for SP2. The hardware checks out okay - in fact today
I installed a different hard drive in the system and loaded it with
WindowsXP without a hitch. Also, I removed the original hard drive,
hooked it up to another system then ran full virus scan with NAV2003 and
Panda Titanium - it came up 100% clean. A scandisk also came up clean.
I'm completely stumped with this and really need some direction. I've
worked with computers for over 27 years and have serviced PC's almost
exclusively since '92. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
