Please help! Networking HP laptop to HP printer on a Mac network..

OK, I have a Mac network here at work and I am trying to connect an HP laptop
to it. It connects to the internet just fine, but will not see the HP Colour
LaserJet printer that is on the network! I give the IP address of the printer
and it tells me it isn't valid. Please help!

Need more info. In what context do you "give the IP address of the printer"
and receive a message that it is not valid?

The conventional way to install this printer on your laptop would be to use
the Add Printer wizard. Select Local NOT Network printer. Then add a
standard TCP/IP port (or JetDirect if you have installed the driver) using
the IP address of the printer. If the wizard cannot find a printer at the IP
you specify, it will say so but allow you to create the port anyway - I have
never seen the invalid IP message you describe.
