Network Printer Problem

Guest

I have a HP Laserjet printer connected to my LAN network and was printing
normally from my desktop. Recently, I added a Linksys Wireless G router to my
LAN point and connected my desktop and my laptop to the new router. From that
point onwards, I'm unable to print. The printer is added to my desktop and
laptop but still cannot print. I did a ping test to the PC where the printer
is connected and the test passed.

What could be the problem? Please help.

Posting the results of ipconfig from one of the computers and the
printer's IP address might help.

For the computer, Start>Run>cmd [enter]

ipconfig /all [enter]

For printer, refer to its manual as to how to print the network settings.

The printer, desktop, laptop and router needs to be part of the same
IP network and each should have the very same sub-net mask. You did
not state how the network was configured before the router was
installed.

Here is a sample configuration that "usually" works:

Router -- IP: 192.168.1.254 / 255.255.255.0
Printer -- 192.168.1.253 / 255.255.255.0

Router DHCP service: START: 192.168.1.10 END: 192.168.1.30

The above configuration "assumes" that you are using the router's
standard settings, which usually activates DHCP service (assigns IP
addresses to PCs that request an IP address.)

Hi,

My router IP addr :192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP: 192.168.1.1

How do I tweak this settings to get the printer working?

You left out the printer's and computers' IP addresses. Really, if you
want to continue to try and use newsgroups for tech support help you're
going to need to read the information at the link below - which I have
given you *numerous* times in response to your various posts. No one is
going to take the time to try to pull the information out of you and
very shortly no one will even bother reading your posts let alone
answering them. It's up to *you* to provide the necessary details.

As for me, I'll give you one more chance to come back with a proper post
with all the information in it that I need to give you help. Otherwise
I'm just going to killfile you.

To add to what Malke said, the limited information that you did provide
appears to be incorrect. It is highly unlikely that your router has a
different IP address than your DHCP server. More likely, the IP address
of 192.168.1.100 is assigned to the computer on which you ran the
ipconfig command.

We can't help you unless you provide complete and accurate information.

Malke,

I noticed that alot of people are using the newsgroup for tech support, I'm
not the only one and I did not post this questions many times. I had a
genuine problem and asked the experts here for advice. If you're not keen to
help, just don't.

I was referring to the other posts you have made about other issues.
Yes, lots of people use the Microsoft newsgroups for tech support and
lots of us help them quite successfully. As you have been told, unless
you provide enough information about your system and the problems no one
can help *you*.

And yes, you are correct that I am not keen to help someone who is
obviously incapable and/or unwilling to exert himself enough to provide
the information necessary to get that help.

So yes, I will killfile you.
