Are you sure you don't have the worm, I had it and it
made my computer go off line but not shut down, It may be
able to make your computer shut down also, If so download
the patch,, If you can get on line or get to another
computer. If that is the problem it can be located in
your system 32 file... NOt sure be careful if you go
there looking for it to delete it..... Careful is the word

Hi!Stephen!
By default, XP executes an automatic restart in the event of a system
failure. Therefore, more or less anything compromising the operating
system during the shutdown process could force this reboot. Disabling
the restart on system failure feature may permit the exact cause to be
isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the
Advanced tab. Under Startup & Recovery, click Settings. Under System
Failure, uncheck the box in front of Automatic Restart >ok.

You have something that is crashing - and the system's 'automatically
restart' is cutting in. Turn this off: in Control Panel - System -
Advanced, click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section. There
uncheck 'automatically restart'. You may now get a Blue screen
failure instead, but at least will get some guidance as to what is
happening

It may well be a driver crashing , in which case the bottom line will
probably have a filename.sys in it - that indicates which driver. Look
for it in Windows\system32\drivers, r-cliuck and look on the Version tab
of Properties to see what it is about
