I narrowed down the problem but I need help solving
the "cookie" problem. First, I use bluelight.com as my
ISP. I use Internet Explorer 5.0 and i'm an eBay user. I
use Windows 2000 Professional.
Now for the steps and problem: 1) I sign into my ISP, 2) I
go to eBay.com and sign-in, 3) The next page after signing-
in gives me three primary links to click on: item I last
looked at, my ebay and sell your item. When I click
on "item I last looked at" and "sell your item" everything
works fine. However, when I click on "my ebay" (which is
the most important option for me) I get the white page
that reads something like, "page cannot be displayed".
After trial and error, when I do the following steps AFTER
the "page cannot be displayed" appears then "my eBay" will
work. These are the steps: a) I will click on the back
button and the three above options will reappear, b) then
go into windows explorer>c drive>documents and
settings>lisa>cookies. Then I will delete all cookies
except for the index folder. After those steps, then I go
into WINNT>temporary internet files>content.IES. Then I
will delete all cookies in that folder.
After doing the above steps of deleting the cookies then I
proceed to click on the "my eBay" option and it works
perfectly. Off the top of my head, it will continue to
work properly 90% of the time even if I exit "my eBay"
then surf the web then re-enter "my eBay" during the SAME
SESSION. But the "my eBay" page will almost certainly not
load properly when I reboot my machine. So the question
is: What do I need to do in order for me not to have to do
these repetitious steps when I want "my eBay" page to load
properly each and everytime.
Thank you in advance.
PS-I'm hoping upgrading to IE 6.0 is not my only possible
option.

Not sure if this is related, but note that IE 5 is old old old stuff at this
point. What's the reason you don't want to use IE6 SP1?

Thank you for your response. I'm the 2nd owner of this
laptop. I've owned it for about 3 years now and have
never had problems. My main conerns are that when I
upgrade from IE 5.0 to IE 6.0 that there will be software
and/or hardware incompatiblities with the upgrade. Also,
through the grapevine I hear that IE 6.0 has some "corks"
wrong with it. For these reasons, I'm a little hesitate
but I am possibly willing to upgrade if that is a
possibility of solving my issue. Is that your suggestion?
Are there other possibilites to my problem?
Thank you in advance.

All I can say is that I've been using IE6 for a LONG time and have had no
problems with it. It fixes lots of problems in 5.x. Hardware
incompatibilities w/a browser upgrade? Highly unlikely. Software? Can't
think of anything you'd be using that would be a problem. Of course you do
regular backups now, don't you? <g>
