First, the lecture. The Windows on your computer is considered illegal by
Microsoft unless the giving person profides the cd/coa/sticker along with
it.
Microsoft's solution is to buy the retail version and istall from scratch.

Second the help. Changing the keyboard driver will not in theory affect
the functionality of the mouse. What I would do:
1. with the computer off, connect the ps2 keyboard.
2. go into the bios and set the bios setting to the factory defaults.
if you can't do this step, it is possble that the ps2 port on the
motherboard
is blown. If that is true try to turn on the usb ports and make sure
the
usb/keyboard support is activated. This might save you, otherwise it's
new
motherboard time.
3. reboot the computer. Assumes you got past step 2.
4. hit F8 key and go into safe mode.
5. delete the drivers that are associated with hardware not connected to the
computer.
6. reboot the computer, it should work. the pnp routine of xp should kick
in
and recognise connected hardware.

You can do 4 and 5 without a mouse but it is more difficult. There are
keystrokes
to get around in Windows, if you work on more than one computer that has
mouse
problems, these keystrokes are good to know.

PS2 devices, like keyboards and mice must be connected before the computer
is
booted and can NEVER be connected or disconnected while the computer is
running. If you did do this and the motherboard does not recognise your
keyboard
at all, kiss it goodby (motherboard) and replace it. The same holds true
for a ps2
mouse. USB and Firewire are different. They can be plugged and unplugged
at
will.

Please post results. If you have any more questions, just ask.
