Please explain Alerts Web Service in Outlook 2003

I undertand that alerts technology in outlook 2003 uses X-headers
to pass some data using email

From the article i read i could not figure out if messaegs can be passed to
external outlook client.
does mail servers ,in general ,keeps the X-headres?

Yes, just remember that an X-Header is lost when a user forwards/replies to
a message. (e.g. The X-Header will not be included in the reply/forwarded
item)
