My daughter recently moved to the uk with her laptop with
windows xp and is unable to play dvds purchased in the
UK, althought she can paly those purchased in North
America.

Thyanks for the info, Do you know what has to be done
with windows XP to play region 2 dvds??

You can change the region code 5 times... then it's locked in the last
region and the drive must be sent back to the manufacturers to be reset.

Google for DVDGenie and DVD Region free which enable this to be done without
region limitation.

the reason is the different region coding of dvd's .In the
properties tab of the dvd player device, there should be
one tab called "dvd region" you can change this to match
oyur location , but no more than five times ,then it locks
to the last setting .You can also try software solutions
like "region free dvd"
