Playing DOS games on Windows XP Home Edition

Hi,
I have some old DOS games i would like to play.
When ever i try to run them, they just exit out back to
the Desktop.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
And will they run if i start up the PC in DOS Mode?
Thanks
Jesse.

Cannon Fodder 2 will not run at all under Windows XP, and seems to have
problems even under 98 on modern hardware. Perhaps it has some odd memory
requirements or there are some timing problems. I finally gave up on it.

Now with Chex Quest you may be in luck because it is based on the Doom
engine. There is a program available that will run these games under Windows
using enhanced OpenGL graphics, sound and DirectX input. You can find the
program here: http://www.doomsdayhq.com/

I just checked and Chex Quest will not work with Doomsday but it should run
just fine in XP.

Works fine for me, I found out it's freeware. Make sure you are running
chex1.bat and not chex.exe, and you also may want to try VDMSound for better
sound support. If that still doesn't work you may have to use a DOS startup
disk to run it. Anyway hope you get it going. :)
