Can I play AVi's on my PC through the xbox 360 without issue as long as it
play fine on my PC running Vista Ultimate
 
No, the Xbox 360 supports a limited subset of AVI codecs. There's a Video
Playback FAQ on the subject on the Xbox site. What happens when you try?
What codec does the file in question use?
