Playback of movies

I have PP 2002. I have added movies to the slideshow and then when I view the
slide show there are a few problems. I will try to explain them the best I
can:

1. When it comes to a slide with a movie, there is anywhere from a 1-3
second hesitation before the clip starts... it just shows the first screen of
the movie for those 1-3 seconds
2. The clip stops about 2-3 seconds before the actual clip is over
3. After the movie stops, it loops to the first screen of the movie and
pauses on that image for 1-2 seconds before going to the next slide...
essentially doing the same as #1, just at the end of the movie.

These happen on every movie, regardless of length. I don't have any
sophisticated animations on the slides, I just want it smoothly transition to
the slide, play the movie without that hesitation or hiccup, play the whole
movie, and transition to the next slide right after the movie ends.

Mike F,

If it was me I'd....defrag your hard drive.
How big in filesize terms is the video clip?
I'd consider adding more memory to the computer (RAM) (not HD)
it just shows the first screen of
the movie for those 1-3 seconds

That's a 'static' grab that powerpoint makes when you 1st insert a movie. It
shows that while it's getting ready to play the movie.

I'd consider running the movies through
http://www.playsforcertain.com
3. After the movie stops, it loops to the first screen of the movie

That's normal - somewhere there is a tick box 'rewind movie when done'
(untick it)
pauses on that image for 1-2 seconds before going to the next slide...
essentially doing the same as #1, just at the end of the movie.

I'd also consider setting the next event/slide as something very simple. As
powerpoint behind the scenes is getting ready the next thing to play while
your movie is playing.

TAJ Simmons,
Thanks for the reply

How big in filesize terms is the video clip? - The clips are anywhere from
10mb-90mb (several minute long movies)
I'd consider adding more memory to the computer (RAM) (not HD) - Ive tried
playing the presentation on computers with more RAM, and have all the same
problems

it just shows the first screen of the movie for those 1-3 seconds

I'd consider running the movies through
http://www.playsforcertain.com - That only has the product for 2003 and
2007, I have 2002

3. After the movie stops, it loops to the first screen of the movie

That's normal - somewhere there is a tick box 'rewind movie when done'
(untick it) I dont have that selected, but it still does it.

I'd also consider setting the next event/slide as something very simple. As
powerpoint behind the scenes is getting ready the next thing to play while
your movie is playing. The next slide is just an full size picture (an
image that takes up the whole slide)
Also, What I ultimately want to do is turn the powerpoint into a movie file
so I can put it on a DVD for people to view. Its like a virtual scrapbook,
with videos, commemorating my class completing the police cademy. How do I go
about doing this?

Thanks again,
Mike

Let me save you a bit of time and effort. Currently, there is not a great
solution for converting a PPT presentaiton to a movie. Before investing all
the time creating the presentation you shuould look at what your options are
for video conversion and decide if they are good enough for what you want.

As others suggested, you might consider using PFCPro
(www.playsforcertain.com) to insert and edit the video if you do use
PowerPoint. (Comes as a fully functioning two week trial.)
