Play video in the browser

Hello All,

I have updated (installed) quick time and real play and lost the
browser feature to play video clips. Prior to that, when I was
clicking on video link, mpg, that video clip would play in the browser.
Now, I get the download dialog box followed by the real program
playing the video clip.

How do I restore that in the browser video play.

I use WindowsXP, with Firefox and sometimes with IE6

Looks like RealPlayer has taken over your .mpg file type. Easy way to get
it back is to right click on any .mpg file you have laying around, right
click on it, click Open with....click Choose program, click to select
Windows Media Player, check the box "Always use...", click Okay. That will
set your .mpg file type. You might also want to also do .mpeg.

Another way is to open Windows Media Player - talking v. 10 here, click the
down arrow upper right, click Tools...Options...File Types tab, put a check
by "Movie file (mpeg)", [under Description note the file types it will apply
to], click Apply, click Okay.

Thank you very much for your response. I downloaded and installed
windows media player v-10. But now that program comes up and plays the
clips.
How do I get it to play in the browser.

Have you tried messing with the Advanced Options?

Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced ... then look under Multimedia.
I haven't tried it but it might need to uncheck the first box under
Multimedia.

Automatic Image Resizing". I tried to uncheck it, it did not help. I
have then unchecked all restarted IE and restored Defaults (which
include "play video in web pages"). But all of that did not help.
When I click an mpg, the Window Media Player pops up and play the
video clip,

It depends on what you mean by "play in the browser".
If you mean you want to see the old "media bar" you can't.
Otherwise give an example of a page which you think should
be using embedded media files.

Well if I can step in, I just reinstalled XP PRO SP, and This is a page I built
that no longer shows the mpg's in ie6.

there's 2 mpg movies here.
All I get are image placeholders. and I have that option turned off in the
advanced section.

The files exist, and they played fine before the OS reinstallation.

I can reproduce that symptom by changing my Security level to High.
Hint: doubleclick the zone icon in the Status bar and press Alt-l,CursorUp
and then re-render the page.

Changing it back to Default Level (Medium) I get two stopped embedded
Media Players which give me bandwidth issues but do work properly
other than that.

FWIW XPsp2 Pro apparently installed Media Player 9 (9.00.00.3250).
This is a brand new partition with XP + SP2 + WU critical updates only.

BTDT. Narrowed the problem down to the new golive CS 2. Just haven't figured
out how to fix it.
I tried the security stuff. Since it was my web site. I also placed it in the
Trusted with allow everything.
Reinstalled XP SP2 and got most everything back to before installing GLcs2.
CS works. CS2 fails. It can create the page it just can't preview it
accurately.

Not a good selling point. New version fails, old one works.
