'Play all' in folder view causes error

G

Greg Forschler

For the last week my Windows XP PC has been having trouble playing
audio when chosen from a folder. Any folder that has all audio in it
will have the option to 'play all' on the left hand menu. When I
choose this I just get the pop up window asking if I want to report
the error to Microsoft. Reboots don't help. I have WMP as my default
player. If I open that up and drag the filder to it, it plays just
fine. The first method has working in the past, it just changed one
day even though I have made no major changes to my PC, only regular
Windows updates.
Any ideas how to fix this, maybe registery edit of some sort? Is this
a known bug?

Ensure the following registry entry is set.

------------------- copy between lines -------------------

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\Directory.Audio\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\WMPPlayAsPlaylist]
@="{7D4734E6-047E-41e2-AEAA-E763B4739DC4}"

------------------- copy between lines -------------------

....copy / paste the above text into a plain text file using notepad, then
after saving to disk, rename the file, giving it a *.reg extension.

You will then be able to "import" it by simply double-clicking on it and
selecting [ok] when prompted.

This should give you the option to : "Play with Windows Media Player" when
you right-click on any folder that contains audio files.

If Media Player still malfunctions when this option is used to play the
audio-file contents of a folder, you might try either doing a System
Restore back to a time when you remember WMP working correctly (if it
wasn't too long ago), or Uninstalling WMP11 altogether and then
re-installing it by downloading it from the web page address below...

When I click the .reg file I get the following error- Cannot import
HKEY.reg: the specific file is not a registry script.

Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling, didn't make any difference.
Thanks for tying to help though.

I'm sorry it didn't work - it should have done - with XP at any rate....

However, if uninstalling / re-installing has not worked, I seriously doubt
the contents of the reg-file would be of any use now either....

I'm sorry too, if I can come up with any other ideas, I will post them
here.
