PL: Change the PL Slogan or Not - Vote Here

G

Garrett

It has been suggested in a topic that was not titled properly, that the
slogan of Pricelessware be changed from:

"The best of the best in Windows© Freeware as
determined by the readers of alt.comp.freeware."

to:

"The best of the best in Freeware for Windows©
(and other OS) as determined by the readers of alt.comp.freeware."

Let's not bury this important thing like the site move, let us allow
all the users here have the opportunity to voice their opinion on this.
After all, it should be determined by the readers of alt.comp.freeware,
and not just a small handful of people who have a problem with being
open with voting on things like this

Place your votes here people, keep the slogan the way it is, or change
it to the suggested one?

I vote to *retain* the word "Windows" in the slogan but I move that the
copyright symbol "©" after the word be replaced by the legally correct
trade mark symbol "â„¢".

The slogan would then read:
"The best of the best in Windowsâ„¢ software as determined by the readers
of alt.comp.freeware."

I have already taken it upon myself to apply this correction to the
printed covers of all Pricelessware CD's distributed by me.

For Pricelessware.org I say leave it. For any other site...who cares.

I don't understand why Windows is even mentioned. 'The best of the best
of the world of freeware' would pretty much say it all.

Honestly, it's a sentence. A slogan. Should be a fairly simple
exercise in discussion and implementation.

Hi Tramp,

Not to be stuffy about this, but the vote is in regards to the slogan
itself, and not with any specific site. I'd rather not get into the
who's site is who's issues again and cause any wars. So this vote
affects those who are trying to represent the list in it's purest form
and want to follow the wishes of this group. If you don't mind, could
I talk you into editing your post keeping in mind that your vote is
neutral to any specific web site?

I didn't start this vote because of any site. I started it because it
needed to be brought to the attention of this group to decide upon.

Thanks,
-Garrett

Nah. I don't support, recommend, endorse, approve or even like the other
site. IMO there is only one Pricelessware and that is Pricelessware.org
Sorry m8 my vote stands with the included comments.

I know this.

You were right to do it the way you did.

BTW you are doing a super job.

So, you go from one extreme to the other. First, you change things on
your site with *no* discussion or call for votes and now you demand that
*any* change be called for a vote.

Sorry, Garrett, but anyone interested is already following the other
threads.
Besides, you've already conceded to Susan the duty of conducting
Pricelessware minutiae.
Are you recanting?

I'll bring that up after this vote is over. It should at least be
brought to vote for everyone.

Thanks for bringing that up,

I would prefer 'The best of the best of Freeware as determined by the

But given the two choices above I would go for the latter.

I agree. The change sounds like something a lawyer would come up
with and is the result of what I consider to be poor planning on the
part of this group's originators.
Back when this group was first proposed in alt.config, John Wolf
originally proposed that rather than there be this one freeware group,
there should be a group for each OS:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...46708116&[email protected]#link6

or:

http://makeashorterlink.com/?L24732619

*Examples* would be (I do not intend to list every OS there is):

alt.comp.freeware.windows
alt.comp.freeware.linux
alt.comp.freeware.osx

If an OS went the way of the dinosaurs, then the corresponding group
would die out via natural selection.

John's suggestion still makes a tremendous amount of sense to me, but
of course for the bulk of this group's regulars to migrate to
alt.comp.freeware.windows would take time.

Me too, and ISTM that at last this was the choice for those who proposed to
change, then I can't understand why here we should vote for a previous
abandoned choice.
But given the two choices above I would go for the latter.

I don't. Why here has not been considered the choice 'The best of the best
of Freeware as determined by the readers of alt.comp.freeware' ?
