I am currently making changes to http://www.earths-ocular.com/ and was
wondering if "Pricelessware" is a copyright or a service mark.

At this time the link (site description) to the page says:
Pricelessware the best in Windows © Freeware
Should it be addressed as such or is it's usage indicated below?

On the Pricelessware site the pages have the following:
Pricelessware (eg.Home)
© alt.comp.freeware 1999-2004

While I'm at it, is the "best in Windows © Freeware" going to be changed,
after discussion, to include other OSs - "Linux" etc? A generic name?

Thank you for your time,

Thank you for your time,

I'm presuming the "Windows © Freeware" is to symbolise that Windows is
copyrighted?, if so, it would probably be best to have it as;

"Windows Freeware"

And have a little notice at the bottom of your site (in a disclaimer or
something) that states Windows is trademarked/registered/copyrighted by
Microsoft.

Personally I'd just change it from;

"best in Windows © Freeware"

To

"best in Freeware"

Mainly because it saves chancing Microsoft being complete git's about it,
but also because not all freeware is for Windows and some of the programs on
PW, have versions for the likes of Linux aswell as Windows.

I believe that there is *automatic* copyright protection in the US -
Genna nudged me and suggested there should be something on the pages too
so I added the © alt.comp.freeware note at the bottom of each page.

I've been trying to think of more accurate wording for a long time -
perhaps "the best in Freeware for Windows© (and other operating
systems)"? Pricelessware is *primarily* Windows oriented . . .
Thank you for your time,

da nada, not sure how much help I am . . . :)

Perhaps someone more knowledgable will add their comments.

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed
in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid
of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment
the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to
bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright
Basics, section “Copyright Registration.â€

OK. The way I understand it. The Pricelessware title can be a service mark
(free). The Pricelessware logo (Is there one?) can be a trademark (Takes
money to do that). The intellectual property known as the Pricelessware
website can be copyrighted in the U.S. with or without the ©(free)and
honored throughout most of the world as such.

Anyone else have any ideas on "the best in Windows © Freeware" subject?
