Over time I have seen you help many people with different problems with
their Vista boxes and I have a minor glitch maybe you can help with......

Approximately a month ago or so I noticed that my box does not always go to
sleep on its own....I can manually put it to sleep and it will stay asleep
no matter how long I leave it...As soon as I hit any key on the keyboard it
will of course wake instantly....There are also times that it will go to
sleep on its own and once again it will stay asleep.....If I do a restart
and walk away and then come back 5 to 10 minutes later it is asleep as it
should be per the settings....I have researched the crap out of this issue
and all settings seem to be correct and indeed must be if it does go to
sleep on its own...I am running Vista business 32bit, Intel core2 6600 ,
4gigs DDR800
Intel Bad Axe D975XBX2 motherboard...I have been running this machine since
Vista was rc1 and of course when the official release was made I then
purchased and installed Vista business.....I have had this minor glitch
before and it always seemed to cure itself after a week or sometimes 2
weeks...that is probably why I have not worried about it too much....Am I
missing something ?? I have of course looked in event viewer but I am not
always sure what I am looking for....Who knows maybe SP1 may fix it once and
for all but since this machine is constantly kept up to date with every fix
needed or posted on win update then I do not really know how much of a
difference I will see...This machine has always been smoking fast and rock
solid but if it became even faster I do not think I will argue...

I would appreciate if you would post back whether you have an answer at all
as at least I know it was read........Thanks again for any help

I don't personally have an answer because I don't use sleep. However, SP1
is supposed to address many sleep issues. Maybe you are already using the
rtm (the TechBeta testers already have it) but if not you may want to review
the long long list of fixes and enhancements in SP1 at
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windo...7038-4e82-a32c-4bc10ffe56ab1033.mspx?mfr=true
I suspect that from what I've read in the TechBeta newsgroups that this has
been addressed. It is also possible that you have power management software
that can be updated from the computer's manufacturer.

One option is to wait until you have SP1 in April and see if it clears the
issue up.

Thanks Colin for the reply....I do not have the rtm so I will wait until
April for the release....It is definitely not killing me to manually put it
to sleep....I will investigate the link you provided as I am indeed curious
what SP1 contains.....As always I appreciate your help...

Hello "Drew"
I don't know if I should butt into a question asked of someone else but
thought if you were interested I am having good luck with my Vista Ultimate
sleep set-up and thought I would share my Power Option settings in case you
would like to try them and see if it helps you.

In Power Options in the control panel I have my pc set to "Balanced Plan".
I then selected "change advanced plan settings. In the Power Options wizard
I selected "Change Settings that are currently unavailable". I expanded
"Multimedia settings", then "When sharing media". Where it says "Setting"
you can click on the listed setting and it then offers you some setting
options. I selected "Allow the computer to sleep". The only other change
from default I made was "No" to requiring a password on wakeup. (This might
not be appropriate for you). After making the changes and clicking OK I
re-started the computer and sleep has worked flawlessly since then (3
months). Hope you find this of some use.

Thanks xiowan for the response....I do have these same settings and yet I
have this problem...as I originally stated it does not always happen....Just
enough to be irritating.....About 3 out of 7 times it will not sleep...

There are lots of patches for various sleep issues in SP1. You can review
these to see if any address your issue. The link is in my response to the
OP.

Sorry to hear a simple setting change wasn't the answer. It's times like
these that I feel like Vista is just a little "underfed" and might be helped
by switching from 110V to 220v!
