Downgrading Vista to XP

S

SacredHeart

Has anyone switched from Vista to XP without losing all the programs
and settings? I am seriously thinking about this since I am sick and
tired of Vista problems with sleep/hibernation. My computer HP
DV6000 will not stay asleep more than few minutes. I tried every
possible solution suggested to no avail.

thanks

No, that's not possible. Downgrades aren't supported. The only way for you
to get to XP is by doing a clean installation of it.

By the way, if yours is a relatively new computer, make sure that XP drivers
exist for all its components. If not, you wan't be able to run XP on it.
This is more likely to be an issue if yours is a laptop.

Hi,

You need to look at what software is running actively in the background, in
particular your antivirus and antimalware products. My DV6000 has no
problems whatsoever with sleep mode under Vista. If those products are
running active scanning or are set to run scans after a period of non-use,
it will inhibit Vista's ability to sleep. Also make sure that you are using
the most recent driver releases from HP, especially the video adapter (the
older nvidia ones were problematic to say the least).

In a few months we will have windows7 and you can upgrade, I wouldn't
downgrade at the moment.

I don't know that, but the question seemed to me to be how it could be done.

Vista is kapput,haven't you heard.

No I haven't heard anything from any official source saying that Vista
is "kapput". Nor do I anticipate such a stupid statement.
I've heard from the linux trolls, FUD spreaders and losers (like you),
but they are all full of shit.

What a pity.

You still haven't answered my original question about Windows 7.

No, of course not. There isn't an OS in the world that permits
in-place downgrades.

And what has HP's technical support had to suggest when you contacted
them with problems with their product and customized version of the OS?

I have talked to HP, they were not helpful. They told me to uninstall ACPI
device and reboot. It didn't help. I looked at all the devices that can
wake computer and disabled all. No luck. The following link shows MS is
aware of this problem and has not fixed it yet. The computer was working
fine when I got it. It happened year later probably after some windows
update. I cant go back to XP and not sure if Windows 7 will fix it.

This article talks about USB causing this ...However I checked all my USB
devices and hubs, none of them does help. I have an Infrared receiver which
has no way of disabling short of opening and ripping it out of system.
This is Microsoft's screw and they should fix it...Lot of people are having
this problem as you can see if you do a search.

I am very frustrated. I have to yank the battery out everytime I put it to
sleep.

Then why don't you just shut the damned thing off and stop all the
fussing?

Did you try a Restore point to a period before this happened?

Really? What are you going to do to force the issue?... Stand naked
in front of MS HQ in Redmond with a protest sign? You would look no
less foolish than you do now.

I, for one, cannot verify your problem on my machine.
