Pictures don't display

My son recently installed Verizon/Yahoo DSL software on his gateway PC. Ever
since that install he has had consistent issues related to the display of
pictures on web sites. The home page will load appropriately; if he then
selects "lowes" from the drop down list the main page will display,
apparently appropriately. If he then selects an item from the lowes drop
down menu the page will come up without the pictures of the items being
displayed. Some of the items will have a red X instead of the picture, while
others will just display a blank area. At the bottom of the web page there's
an indication that the browser is downloading "x" number of pictures (the
url for the pictures is shown here), but there is no internet activity.
Selecting "View/Refresh" does nothing to improve the situation.

If he then hits the back button, the prior page displays, but without all
the content. If he then hits "home", his home page will appear, but more
often than not, without all the appropriate material. Occasionally, the page
will hang up, requiring a shutdown of the browser.

Apparently Verizon has dumped the problem onto MS and doesn't have any
helpful information to share.

I'm fairly sure this has something to do with the Verizon/Yahoo DSL software
installation as the problem didn't exist prior to the switch to DSL. He did
uninstall and reinstall once, but the problem still exists.

Hopefully, someone else has encountered this problem???

C,

Until someone comes along with a better answer, I can only tell you that I
had this same problem a few days ago when I installed new software. Seems
some of my settings got reconfigured. Mine turned out to be in Spy Sweeper,
under the Internet settings. Once I removed a particular checkmark from a
block, everything returned to normal. Does your son have some similar type
blocking program on his system. That might be a place to start looking.

There is a program that comes with the Verizon/Yahoo DSL software, but I
don't remember the name of it. I did play around with the internet settings,
but maybe not enough.

Hi,
With a broadband connection, the cache (Temporary Internet Files folder) can
fill up quickly.

Try clearing the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50-60 MB (Settings.)

As Vicki mentioned, check any security, privacy, ad-blocking programs which
are running.

Other possibilities at:
Red X- Pictures do not Show: http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/redx.htm
IE- Images missing: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/51.html

Hope this helps,
Don
