A link in an email will not work.

Let me expand this subject. I am using XP and the IE browser. Now, as I am
connected to the internet through Verizon DSL, when I go Start > Programs >
IE, I get the DSL Verizon "home page" with the IE address bar at the top. To
access Verizon DSL's email program, I click on an "All email" or
similarly-named button and away I go. Now the link that does not work in the
email is in black print only--no blue color, no underlining and clicking on
it does nothing. But it should be blue and underlined.

But I also have Outlook Express on my computer and if I call up the same
email in OE as in Verizon, the link works beautifully. There it is
underlined and in blue.

I spent an hour on the phone with Verizon about this to no avail. They
changed all IE (Tools > options) to default; that did not help. They had me
select a new Verizon PW and change my modem to accommodate that new PW. That
did not help either.

I sent the email in question to another computer (running XP, Firefox and
using Eudora for email) and there the link (underlined and in blue) worked to
perfection.

Other than this problem, my computer is working normally.

The technician at Verizon suggested I contact Microsoft believing there was
something amiss with IE; hence this letter to you.

What do you suggest I try? Reinstalling or updating IE...or ???

IE version?

1. [Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs >] Set Program Access and Defaults >
Browser: Select "Internet Explorer" here.

If no joy, see:

2b. Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet
Explorer 7:

Appreciate your answering. The IE version is 7. But hey, in this (my)
instance), THE LINK(S) DO WORK IN OUTLOOK EXPRESS!

Not necessarily. The web page may have a specified coloring which
overrides your preferences. In order to check if this is the case you
should test by using the Accessibility dialog's override of webpage
use of color. Keystrokes: Alt-T,O,Alt-e,c

Good luck

Hi Bob (Aldwinckle):

So the link does not HAVE to be in blue (black is quite OK), but it does not
have to be underlined either?

(By the way I never SET any preferences)

Could you expand a bit to help me re what the Accessibility dialog is and
tell me where I should go or be to type in Alt-T,O,Alt-e,c and do I type
that in as one keystroke sequence EXACTLY (caps, commas, no spaces) as you
(or I just now) typed it here?
