picture and fax viewer edit button error

Hello,
My winXP (home w/sp1) "picture and fax viewer" edit botton does nothing.
It closes the program but does not open anything at all. Right clicking
the picture in its window I can click on edit and MSPhotoEditor opens up
just fine. I know about the regedit in :
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command

I changed the default %systemroot%\system32\mspaint.exe to Photo editor
just fine but it didn't help the fact that Picture and Fax viewer has a
problem with the edit button. My other XP machine (home with sp1 added
later) works just fine. Even the fact that I never changed
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command from
its default of mspaint it opens in Photo Editor everytime.

What can I do? Is there a way to reinstall just the picture and fax
viewer? Could the dll be bad? I'm not sure if it ever worked right but
it sure is dead now.

Thanks
Randy

Click START|RUN and type this --- and see what happens...

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

I had already done that... it didn't help. I actually first did
"regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll" and then "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll." I see a few
other postings that others have had the same prob and were never able to
fix it. Darn. I was thinking about re-installing the dll from another
source (my good XP from my other computer) but I wasn't sure the steps I
would have to take to get it into winXP. I see you can't just erase one
copy and insert the other.
