pic resolution

I was on a site where I copied some pics. Although they
didn't look like it, when I opened them up in photoshop,
they were only 1.2" x 1.55", but at 300dpi.

I put the same pics on my site, but at 5.13" x 6.48" and
72 dpi (which is what they automatically converted to when
I decreased the dpi).

Is there ANY difference or advantage to having the same
pics one way or the other...or does it matter?

Please remember that dpi applies ONLY to printing. It is a physical
measurement. PPI (pixels per inch) is governed by the end viewer.
