Photograph slide show -> DVD

I'd like to develop a photograph slide show that will play not only out of my
laptop but also on a television DVD, retaining the original resolution of the
original photos (to the extent possible).

Is PPT the right tool for this? What else do I need? Can I add text to the
photographs from time to time? What about developing transition slides with
photograph backgrounds but text in the foreground? Any hints would be
appreciated.
 
If you don't need the sophistication that is PowerPoint (i.e. fancy internal
transitions in slides etc) then you can get very respectable results using
DVD authoring software that supports Slide Shows (e.g. Ulead DVD Facdtory is
quite good).
This provides fairly vanilla transitions between images and the ability to
add either a background recorded sound track .. or sound clips synchronized
to each slide.
Also, Microsoft Photo Story 3 and Microsoft MovieMaker may be of interest.
They don't provide DVD burning capability but create output video files
suitable for DVD authoring.
I find that best image results are obtained if you directly create the image
slide shows in the DVD authoring/burnign software.

The final image quality will never of course be the same quality as the
images on your computer (for typical nice computer images). Just a fact of
life of the TV/video low resolution capabilities.

PowerPoint it self is enouth for creating photo slideshow, however, you'll
need a 3dr party program like PPT2DVD to help you turn the show onto dvd disc
to be played on tv.

BTW, Some DVD slideshow software may be the alternatives.

need.

I have tried several slide show software programs. The only one I found
that makes DVD slide shows that will play on my home DVD player is My
Slide Show gold. You can download a 30 day trial from anixsoft.com.
Compared to other slide show software it is real easy to use, add
music, captions really anything you want. In addition to burning a dvd
is will also burn an auto run cd that will play on your pc. The only
thing I have not been able to do is break up the slide show into
chapters. I highly recomend My slide show Gold.
 
Well there are other excellent choices.
Ulead DVD MovieFactory does an excellent job of image slideshows targetting
either DVD, SVCD or VCD.

Am I supposed to get Photo Story 3 as part of Windows XP? Should it already
be on my PC if I have a one-month old laptop? (Couldn't seem to find it).
