Slide shows v.s. presentations

There seem to be two ways of saving a series of photographs via
PowerPoint -
1) as a PowerPoint Slide Show, and 2) as a Powerpoint Presentation.
I've received several of the former as e-mail attachments, which start
up immediately at a mouse click, and seem to be the accepted method of
transmission. Now on my own I've begun to create PowerPoint
presentations, but when you click on those icons, they download the
PowerPoint program, then the photos I've processed. How can I save my
presentations as a slide show? I'm afraid this is confusing, but as a
PowerPoint newbie I'm confused myself! Thanks for your patience, and
your help.

There is absolutely no difference in the product. Only in the way that they
open with the full version of PowerPoint. Both ppt, and pps will open in the
slideshow mode using the PowerPoint viewer. When you chose Save or Save As,
selecting presentation (.ppt), this opens in the edit mode In the Save as
window you scroll down the types window and select PowerPoint show (.pps)
this when opened, and nobody has messed with the file associations will open
in the slide show mode. You can change the file extensions in Windows
Explorer from ppt to pps and vice versa with no adverse effects.
