Photo Story 3 is great, but why can I not create Video CD's any more?

Last night I was writing an article for InformIT.com on Photo Story 3. It
was supposed to be on Photo Story 2, but then 3 came out so I jumped right
in up to my knees.

First things first: Great improvemetns. I really like the MovieMaker
transitions, creating sounds (even if mine sound awful) and the rest.

BUT!! Where did Video CD go? I see I can save my file as a Video CD, DVD or
SVCD readiness (NTSC and PAL formatting) but the bit where I need to burn
the CD is gone. I really loved that feature in Photo Story 2 where I could
burn a Video CD (with the option of storing all of the photographs) and give
it to my friends and family as gifts.

It seems a great pity that one of the best features in Photo Story was not
enhnaced for DVD.

Can someone please tell me that I am wrong and that I just stupidly missed
something.

Cheers,

Matthew

Version 3 doesn't over-write version 2 so maybe do it on both.

I haven't done my saving and distribution page yet, but you're right in not
seeing a save directly to VCD... one of the profiles for saving is VCD, but
you then need to use other software to make the disc.

Yeh, I was thinking along this path. I will test tonight to make sure that
V10 video can work with the convertor used with PhotoStory 2.

What is interesting is that if you choose the email save setting then you
have a series of additional settings that allow you to email the created
file. It would make sense that if you choose DVD or VCD then you would have
similar settings. It is almost as if this feature was dropped or forgotten
at the last minute.

Yes, you are right, but it does not tie in with the rest of the product that
is "cutting edge." I just see it as a lost feature (DVD burning, I mean - I
agree about the VCD quality).

If you have PS2 along side PS3 then you may actually persuade the PS2's vcd
making engine to burn a VCD from PS3 movie. I found this hack a while ago to
burn vcds of Movie makers movies using PS2's engine. I am pretty certain it
would work with PS3's produced wmv files as well though I haven't tried
it...

If you try this hack please report the progress.

Just bought Roxio 6 for $25 and it has a brilliant VCD photo creation tool.
No transitions but it is great quality.
