Photo Printing Wizard

We have a number of HPxw4200 computers running Windows XP SP2 in our office.
On only one of the machines when I print picture files from Windows Explorer
I get the Photo Printing Wizard window.
I love this feature. But how do I enable this on the other workstations?

Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type
(or copy/paste):

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

Hi John,

Nope, unfortunately that did not work. The succeeded prompt did come on.
But I still cannot select the image files from Windows Explorer, File|Print
to get the Photo Printing Wizard. Now the print job just goes directly to
the defaul printer.

What happens if you open an image in
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and then
type...Ctrl+P? (It should launch the Photo
Printing Wizard)

And maybe you need to reset your image
associations:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

More info:

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list.

If you want the default...choose..."Windows
Picture and Fax viewer"

Once you make your selection...be sure to check
the box that says: "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

Hi John,

Thanks again for your assistance on this.

The image files were associated with Microsoft Office Document Manager.
I changed them to Windows Picture & Fax Viewer as you suggested.

Now, when I open the image by double clicking it, the image is displayed in
theWindows Picture & Fax viewer.
I'm able to click the Print button or hit Ctrl+P and the Photo Printing
Wizard window does come up.

But I'm still unable to select the image in Windows Explorer and select
File|Print to force the Photo Printing Wizard to come up.

Any other suggestions?

At least the Photo Printing Wizard is
functional.

Maybe it's a network issue or a printer
driver issue...I'm sorry...I don't have the
answer.

right click an image and choose Print.

The print job just goes directly to the default printer. No Printing Wizard
window ever shows up.

Try this

In the Folder Options Dialog select a file type extension such as JPEG then
Click Advance in the Actions pane make sure you have "printto"without the
quotes ...

If you have it then click Edit and make sure you have the following

Application used to perform action:
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_PrintTo /pt "%1" "%2"
"%3" "%4"

Check Use DDE
1st & 3rd box are blank
Application:

Hi Paul,

I tried following the steps you outlined and it still doesn't work.
Actually, let me clarify. Only TIF image files do not pop up the Photo
Printing Wizard when I select one or more than one to print.

By defautl TIF images are associated to a program called Microsoft Office
Document Imaging. When this program is associated with the TIF extension,
there is an Advanced button for me to click on. This is where I added the
printto info. as you mentioned. All other image files like bmp, gif, jpg,
png & wmf are by default associated to the program called Window Picture and
Fax Viewer. After I change the TIF associated to this program, the Advanced
button is replaced with a Restore button. So I cannot add the printto info.
when this program is associated with TIF.

Any other thoughts?

Thus we have the mystery.
We have one HPxw4200 running XP version 2002 SP2 here that has TIF files
associated with WP&FV.
That machine works perfectly where I'm able to within Windows Explorer
select multiple TIFFs, File|Print and it automatically brings up the Photo
Print Wizard.
But I can't get any of our other HPxw4200 machines with the exact
configurations to do the same on the exact same TIFF files.
It's mind boggling...
