Photo Album Inserts Pictures as AutoShapes?

K

Ken Schreibman

I have been using Photo Album since it was introduced as
an add-in to PowerPoint 2000, and I think it is one of
the best features Microsoft has added to PowerPoint.

I just upgraded to PowerPoint 2003, and found a major
difference in the way Photo Album inserts pictures.

Whereas in PP2000, Photo Album inserted pictures as
pictures, in PP2003 Photo Album inserts pictures as
AutoShapes! This is a big problem because I know of no
way to crop an AutoShape.

So, my question is how can I use Photo Album to insert
many pictures at once, and still have the ability to crop
individual pictures (like I could do in PP2000)? -Ks

Best solution is to use another add-in to create your Photo Albums. I use
Shyam's Image Importer and love it. If you want alternatives, see this PPT

yes, both PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 use your picture as a fill for AutoShapes
(sorry, I never used PPT 2000). The advantage of this is, that you can also
use pictures with rounded corners or even oval ones.

Kind regards,
Ute

Ken,
It can be such a pain, when the core functionality changes. I had brought this up with the powers that be at MS. It was a concious decision to change the behaviour of the manner in which the images are applied. Downside - you can't crop images inserted by the Photo Album anymore. Upside - sales of Image Importer Wizard has gone up. : )

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Ken,

PowerPoint no longer provides the functionality that you are looking for
without resorting to VBA or add-ins.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
the PhotoAlbum feature in PowerPoint provides this kind of functionality
(without having to resort to VBA or add-ins), don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
