Phantom noise

I posted this question earlier and got some good responses, unfortunately
none fixed the problem. I recently built a new computer using XP/Pro. I am
using a Q6600 CPU. 680 sli mother board and a 8800 gpu. The problem I have
concerns a beep noise that randomly happens. I have gone into the windows
settings and shut off every noise listed. I have also done a search for every
wav. file on the computer. I have alos reloaded all of the motherboard and
video drivers. Still I get this noise. There are no visual indicators that
come up to give me a clue to what is going on. The computer operates fine and
all temps are good. Any suggestions?

Is the beep coming from the speakers or from the motherboard. Single beeps
or a pattern, two short one long for example.

I did read somewhere the quad cores don't seem to work quite so well on 680
chipsets.

You may have more luck asking in an Nvidia forum.

Some beep noises are due to overheating and are set in the bios,
unrelated to your OS.

What anti-virus are you using? I had a problem with beeps being recorded into
CDs and soundtracks I was ripping until I noticed that they corresponded to
beeps that Trend Micro's anti-virus emitted in response to things being done
on my computer. Turned out that they were sending it through the motherboard,
and the beeps were being recorded into my CDs.

So look at your antivirus, and also at any settings for any program that
might allow audio signalling of an event. Then see if you can correlate an
event to a resident program.

Given that all temps are good, MAY not be a BIOS problem, but why not:
Operate your computer in your butcher's meat locker for a few hours and
report back as to beeps. Keep your hands off the loins.

The noise comes through the speakers, It is just one loud beep. I suppose it
could be coming from the BIOS and not XP. I will try working through NVidia.
Thanks
