Strange Noise in the Computer

Hi:
My computer, HP (512 MB, 2.08 GHz) making strange noise, ...
a kind of 'swashing/squashing' noise, ... like water running in the basin,
.... not quite loud,
but annoying noise, say the least. That does not happen often, ... just
sometime when
the computer starting or changing from one program to other .

However, otherwise, the computer is perfectly 'fine' without any
problem to concern.

Wonder why the heck, ... the computer making this strange noise, not often
but once awhile.

Any clue on this?

Might want to check the fans.

Could be on of the fans. Pop off the case and listen close when
starting it up from being cold.

Sounds like a noisy fan.

I have half-a-dozen fans, and I have noticed for some time
now that the side case fan-- the one in the center of my
transparent side-- facing toward me-- was making a HELLUVA
racket. I pressed it with my hand for the hundredth time
the other night-- which sometimes quiets it briefly-- and
one of the mount screws fell out on my hand.

I reinserted it, tightened all 4 screws tight.

No more noise.

A loose fan's vibration will make enough noise to drive you
nuts.

Multiple fans will also sing a LOUD song without a fan
regulator.

Check the drive activity lights. It may be some program is doing
something like an automatic backup or other such that involves
disk activity.
