'Noise' in the computer

Hi:
For the past months, my computer started 'humming noise', that is quite
irritating me to the point where I need to abandon some of things I'm doing.

This symptom/noise, ... 'Hamming' noise getting worse as days go by.

I Wonder why this, 'noise' computer making? Age of computer is about 5-6
years, but I seldom use, because I have one more same, HP computer.

Once I turned off, everything is OK.

BTW, I changed a new 'monitor,' as having thought the monitor had a problem.

Thanks for your help in advance.

It is possibly caused by the cooling fan in the tower having seized up with dust
etc. Open the case and see if you can spin it by hand and remove any build up of
dust etc..

It sounds like a fan is going bad. It could be:

The case fan - blows hot air out of the computer to keep everything
inside cool. They do wear out and can be quite noisy

Processor fan - Same thing as above, only it keeps the processor cool

Powersupply fan - keeps the power supply for your computer from
overheating (could fry your machine otherwise

None of these costs too much to fix...the most expensive is the power
supply which will run you around $40 to replace. A processor fan is
about $30 and a case fan is about $15. I recommend taking your machine
to a technician so they can check the fans and replace them if
necessary.

Dirty CPU fan. Or dirty case fan.

Hi
Thanks, all for your support/responses on this.

One thing about which I can NOT really get on this is that this, computer
with 'noise' is
my second computer that I purchased two years ago when my, other computer I
did.
The first one is PERFECTLY 'OK,' ... no problem whatsoever. "Two" pcs are
exact same age.

Then, as a second computer, ... I haven't used so much, .... because this
one is a sort of
'back-up' to make sure I do have 'two' computers to keep my 'internet' at
hand.

However, for some reason, even I haven't used much this, ... the computer
deteriorates
or just 'bad luck' I got this computer with some 'problem' inside, in the
first place?

BTW, I keep this one by the window and around the heater in the winter.
That might be causing
this, fast deterioration?

One more thing is, ... rather to bring it to the shop that might charge
awful, ... then do you think
I'd better off to buy a new one with 'low-price' around $500.00 - $600.00?

I appreciate your feedback, input and any other suggestions would be
appreciated.

Mali, ...

Open the computer. Check your HP manual for this as HP has cases that
are a pain in the butt to open. Look at the fans. Clean them with
compressed air if they are dirty. Not really complicated, Mali.
