"Ringy noise" from eMachines T1090

I have an eMachines T1090 (a spare computer of mine) that I have that
several months ago, it started making a ringing noise. It's tolerable, and
not too loud, but it's a little annoying. It didn't used to do this from
what I could recall. It has a 900MHz Intel Celeron CPU, 128MB of SDRAM, a
48x CD ROM drive, a 20GB Segate hard drive, a 56k modem, and Windows XP
Home. When I put the computer to standby, the "ringy noise" stops. (this
gives me suspicions that it might be the hard drive) However, I haven't
lost any data at all yet. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Travis,

Open the cover, run the pc and get your ears close. A ringing is never good,
and you want to identify the component and replace it before disaster
strikes. Could be the hard drive, but it could also be a fan (and in
particular the cpu fan - if it dies it can take the cpu with it). Do not
delay in diagnosing and fixing this.

Sorry Nictu, it's not the monitor. I use my 19" proview with my MAIN custom
PC too and it is fine. I've also used it with an old 13" monitor without a
problem.
