Pesky Autoplay Problem

G

Greg May

I would be much obliged if anybody could help me with a very pesky autoplay
problem. I am running XP Home. I normally use Winamp for playing audio CDs
and PowerDVD for DVDs. Everything used to work fine. In the last month, I
have upgraded Winamp to 5.02. I upgraded Nero to 6.3.0.3. I have installed
Easy CD-DA Extractor. I also installed Sonic MYDVD. Everything worked fine
until about a week or so ago. My best guess, coincidentally or not, is
that it was around the time I installed Easy CD-DA Extractor. I have since
uninstalled it, but still no luck.

Here is what is happening. My autoplay functionality seems OK. Whenever I
put in a CD on either drive, or a DVD into my DVD drive, it "Opens Folder to
View Files" no matter I have selected in the Autoplay tab. If I select
"Prompt Me", it still "Opens Folder". I have tried to deselect all file
associations for Winamp and make Windoes Media Player my default program for
everything. It still "Opens Folder."

I have been to Kelly's site and tried various things there. My registry
looks proper, at least the items that are listed on that site and on the
various newsgroup threads I have read.

I have tried the Autofix. Currently it finds no problems in the intial
test. When I run the secondary test, and duplicate the "Open Folder"
occurrence, it says it finds a problem corresponding to V2 Autoplay Event,
but it says either the drive is malfunctioning or it cannot find a repair to
the problem. I have attached my log file for review. I don't think it is a
drive malfunction. One drive is relatively new and the it happens on both
my drives. Like I said, autoplay seems to work up to the point it
determines what to do with the recognized file format.

Thanks in advance.
