Personal Settings

My computer is slow loading my personal settings at start up. (25-30 seconds
load time).

I have a 60GB SATA hard-drive (defragged daily, 35GB empty), 2GB Ram,
2.13GHz centrino processor and nothing in Run or RunOnce (other then legit
system32 stuff I checked everyone one of those just to make sure they weren't
spyware).

So, I went to regedit and added a key to see what was taking so long...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion ->
Policies -> System

I enabled verbose status messages by creating a new DWORD value called
"verbosestatus" and setting it to "1". (verbosestatus REG_DWORD 0x00000001
(1)).

When I did that I found that wgalogin.dll was taking about 20 seconds of all
"my personal settings" load time.

My install is 100% legal and genuine but I find this wgalogin.dll - 20
second load time crazy.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to help it load faster? I have
another computer that is older and slower that loads with wgalogin.dll also
in about 4 seconds...

OH MY GAWD!!! WHAT A TRAGEDY!!

Solution #1: leave the computer on.

Solution #2: If you're so obsessive-compulsive that you need to restart
it every day, stop and use the wait time to smell the roses.

First, 25-30 is very short, and much less than most people's boot time.

Second, even if it were slower, my personal view is that the attention many
people pay to how long it takes to boot is unwarranted. Assuming that the
computer's speed is otherwise satisfactory, it may not be worth worrying
about. Most people start their computers once a day or even less frequently.
In the overall scheme of things, even a few minutes to start up isn't very
important. Personally I power on my computer when I get up in the morning,
then go get my coffee. When I come back, it's done booting. I don't know how
long it took to boot and I don't care.
