Please can you help? I can't access email attachments or download software as
I get a message saying the file or path can't be found and I may not have the
right permissions. This has only happened recently so what have I done or not
done?
I have Window XP Home Edition and Zonealarm Internet Security Suite

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I cleared the temp internet files, but still the
same prob. I get the same message when I try to download software, but if I
save attachments to file I can open them.
I recently used a Regclean programme, so I may have changed something then?
My browser is IE8 and email programme Windows Live Mail.

Hello,

Restore your system to an earlier point of time, but do not restore to any
point earlier than the IE8 installation date.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084 - How to restore Windows XP to a
previous state

Note that when you do a System Restore, you will lose configuration changes
that you did from the point that your restored to. So if you had installed
any new software, it will be affected.

If the problem is still there after you restore, you can always undo the
restoration. See the link.

Avoid registry cleaners. There was a recent discussion thread on this in the
xp general newsgroup.
See
http://groups.google.com/group/micr..._frm/thread/fc7c7def5a226dc2/33c8e792e64d11dd

We recommend staying away from registry cleaners. If you want a clean
registry, clean install XP.

I've tried system restore but it tells me no changes were made, or it could
not be restored.
If I uninstall the cleanup progs will it clean the computer or are any
changes already made by them?
Did you mean I can uninstall XP and reinstall and if so would this lose my
files?
I've used Backup files, but when trying to open them it says 'are you sure
you want to add these files to the Registry,' so I've not proceeded with that!
You're being very helpful, thank you.

Hello,

No, uninstalling the registry program will not undo the changes. See whether
the program comes with built-in capability to undo the registry changes.

Otherwise, you can use the free Microsoft Phone Support for IE8 (see under
'for consumers')
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/support/call-us.aspx

quote:
Free phone support for Internet Explorer 8 is limited to installation,
set-up and usage only. Advanced issues are not supported. Advanced issues
include problems that are associated with software and hardware development,
network connectivity, server-based technologies, and business-critical
systems.

Thank you so much for your help.. I've tried different suggestions, but still
get the same message. I can open files if I forward to my a/c on Windows
Live Mail, so it seems to be the Yahoo a/c that has the prob. I've given up
trying now, as there are ways around it unless I want to download software at
any time. Thank you again. Jaygee
