permissions issue

Alright, i would like to start off by saying thank you to anyone who helps or
attempts to help me. I am not an idiot, but I am not a programmer either. The
problem started when my wifes laptop got infected with a trojan downloader
from PC Tools, i removed that and saw that her anti virus wasn't sufficient,
so i downloaded a new copy of AVG and ran a scan, then while that was running
i downloded a copy of RegTool onto mine and ran it to see if anything was
there. In the discovery process it came up with some Windows updates that I
hadn't installed and downloaded them and installed them. NOWWWWW i cant get
into some of my programs, my Outlok tells me I dont have sufficient
permission to hit the send receive button and I cant access some of the
folders that store documents for another software I use for work.

I need help, preferably in common english, one might even say explain it
Sesame Street style for me.

Me again, i forgot to mention that EVERY TIME I go online i get a message
that says another program has changed my default search engine from live.com
to another one. Then a box pops up that I can change my search provider. It
appears that this is running as a part of live.com....how do I shut this
off??? And this also just started to happen after the updates.

Can we assume you are running Windows XP? Service pack 2 or 3?

Use InternetExplorer/ Tools / Windows Update; reboot, try again until
there are no more "updates."

AVG is good. My NBF is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Rick,

We can assume that I am running XP Pro with Service Pack 3 installed. I did
as you said and downloaded 11 more updates and installed and rebooted. Same
as before.

Some tools like AVG "protect" you from changes to your Home Page!
Go to AVG, Windows Defender, et cetera and see if one of those is
trying to protect you (a.k.a. shoot you in the foot!).

The Error reads:

A Program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider
setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this setting to
yur original search provider, Kive Search(search.live.com). Internet Explorer
will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install
more search providers.

I open it and Live is set as my default, I have gone so far as to remove
every other search provider except live and have the same results.

What is your anti-virus s/w? It is probably the error generator.
