Permanent damagee from XPSP2!

i downloaded WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe at work and burnt it to a CD to
install on XP home edition at home. It looked like it was going well until i
had a 'cannot copy' error on some dll file. I checkead and there were two
copies of the file on my hdd already so i tried to continue. I couldnt and
had to cancel. I then got a message saying sp2 had not installed correctly
and windows may no longer work! The machine then auto restarted and sure
enough i just get blue screen now! Have tried uninstalling sp2 using
recovery console, but it seems to have made no difference....what next?
Wondered about upgrading home edition to pro, would this sort it out?

Perform a "repair install", then install SP2.
Upgrading to XP Pro from a dodgy XP Home
installation will not accomplish anything and
will likely fail.

Thanks for the advice, however i couldnt get the setup program to recognise
the existing installation. various attempts at rewriting boot.ini and
copying ntdlr didnt help.
I think i am going to move the partition up the disc, create a new primary
and install xp pro on that. I can transfer all the files i want to the new
installation from the old one, the only thing that will be a pain is
reconfiguring dial-up connections and device drivers, but all the info should
still be there.
another prob is i dont have the machine with me now, just the hdd, so no
doubt i will get a load of extra grief when i put the disc back in its usual
machine!
think i will try to slipstream sp2 and create a new bootable xp disc too.
