I have reinstalled xp home cd 3 times now. I have tried to use the fixes on
the microsoft kb, but I cannot retrieve these files. Puts my computer back
to a blue screen each time with a memory dump. My xphome edition is from
2002 and I did not have these issues until I uploaded the sp2 and the ie7.0.
When I go into add'remove hardware, it does not show any updates for the sp2.
When I do winver, I still get my original configuration of xp. Please
assist, I have been trying for 3 days to get this to go, but no luck! I am
not able to get to the recovery console during the setup process, cruises
right on by and trys to start windows.

I think you have SP2 installed otherwise IE7 will not install?.
Open Windows Explorer and click Help >> About Windows.
Then click on or locate this path:
C:\Windows\Software Distribution = Look in the Right Pane/Windows
Make sure this machine is malware and Virus free by scanning your system.
